The "Dingo" is a wild dog indigenous to Australia. It is generally ginger in color with white on paws, chest and tip of tail. An amazing animal that deserves to be given the same respect owed to any wildlife in its natural habitat. Growing up I never saw a Dingo. They had been culled or excluded from our area by the Dingo Fence, longest fence in the world. I sketched this portrait upon returning from a trip to Central Australia where I encountered a dingo for the first time. The dingo was aware of my interest but unafraid. In fact it showed uncanny intelligence! It trotted to a water tank provided for travelers; all the while aware of me. It looked at the tap than at me. I got the message and filled the basin under the tap with clean water. Upon taking its fill the Dingo gave me one last look as though to say, "Thanks!" and disappeared into the bush. One of my favorite "on country" memories.
